There was a meme on facebook quite a few years ago that showed a newspaper clipping about George Harrison dying and it mentioned in one paragraph, this:

----------

Lennon "was the soul of the Beatles, Harrison was the spirit," Martin said, "Paul was the heart, and Ringo was the drummer." :-)

I couldn't help replying, ""You shall love the Lord with all your heart, soul, spirit, and snare..."

[a female friend replied]:

Funny, I always thought Ringo was the cutest of them all!!! (And Octopus's Garden is one of my favorite Beatles songs, possibly top five. It just makes me happy.)

[I replied]:

...I think I would agree with you. Well, not about "cute" -- that's maybe not something I would discern easily -- but rather, the "joy" that seems to exude from him. I've long said that I love lots of the Beatles songs -- Octopus' Garden, certainly, and almost all songs by the other three of course.

But if I had a chance to go to a local pub and have a beer with any one of them, I think I'd have chosen Ringo since he just seems like the most joyous and "fun to be around" type of the four.

I grew up with the Beatles and have always thought they were the best of their sort. Amazing creativity poured from those four and Mr. Martin, and the stories behind the scenes just add to the enjoyment. Thanks for digging up this piece, Debra. I liked that country twang as well!
