On each Good Friday since we began Word & Song, we have opened up our paid podcast, Poetry Aloud, to everyone for the reading of my dramatic monologue, “St. Peter,” from my book-length poem, The Hundredfold: Songs for the Lord. This poem is the sixth (of twelve) monologues in the book, and it immediately precedes the 33rd of the 100 poems. Here the speaker is Saint Peter, on Good Friday, after he has denied that he even knew Jesus, and the cock has crowed, and Peter realizes that he has done exactly as Jesus said he would do. And he goes out of the city, weeping bitterly.
For those of our readers who have not read The Hundredfold, we hope you will give it a try. Wish all of you a Blessed Easter.
