What’s the best hymn about the heart? I don’t know, but my vote goes to the Welsh hymn Calon Lan, meaning The Clean Heart. Its refrain, if I translate it into English prose, means, “A clean heart is full of riches, and is fairer than the lovely lily; only the clean heart can sing, sing every day and every night.”
This magnificent performance of Calon Lan with the incomparable Bryn Terfel and the Dunvant Male Choir which will touch your heart.
(We posted Calon Lan before the official launch of Word and Song, when we had not opened to subscribers. We are reposting it today for The Hymn of the Week because we want all of our subscribers to hear it.)
