One of my favorite hymns! I can almost smell the incense as the choir passes by in solemn procession.

I read somewhere that when there were renovations to the Cathedral in Gubbio in the early XX century, the wolf's skeleton was found.

Wow, Denver! I'll have to run that past Tony to see if he has heard of that.

Even without hearing the music, these words are deeply moving. They remind me of a scene in a novel by Elizabeth Goudge.

I first looked for the hymn by King's College, always excellent, and found a beautiful version with all the verses and a very fine descant. I played it for Tony, and we agreed it was wonderful. But then I spied a longish video by the Choir of Salisbury Cathedral .. and I said to Tony, let me just listen to this. He was listening from across the room, and he said that the second version gave him the shivers. I agreed.

Chills! I love the stately pace, the tender phrasing, the different voices on different verses. And yes, weeping for joy, we might sing this song in Heaven. Glory to God!

That version is certainly better than Mr Bean’s attempt! Starts around the 1:20 mark…

Adrian, we have been watching the Wodehouse "Jeeves and Wooster," and just finished the series with regrets that there are no more. "Mr. Bean" is just the ticket! We watched that episode tonight and were ON THE FLOOR laughing. Thanks for pointing us that way!

Mr. Bean isn't always beyond reproach (who is?!). But my parents, who were two of God's very dearest children, laughed and laughed at him. Divine silliness!
