It’s a good song and is sung so well here. I always think “Pan Am” rather than “TWA”, though—somehow Pan Am conjures up the excitement and glamor of 1960s air travel. I like Frank Sinatra’s live performance at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas with Count Basie and his orchestra. The album is “Sinatra at the Sands” and “Come Fly With Me” is the opening song. The band and then the singer are introduced with pizzazz —it makes me wish I could have caught a live Rat Pack show back in the day, and I am not one for ever (again—once was enough) going to Vegas. As for the Lawrence Welk Show—-I liked the bubbles.

Yes, all-time great song--just wish it was not Sinatra’s. He was not a nice man.

Stan Freberg was a genius in every respect. My friend and I memorized that album in all its wacky glory. It deserves its own story, along with his equal classic Green Christmas. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore...

All week I’ve been expecting “Fly me to the Moon.” This was a wonderful surprise!

Right you are, on all counts! This entry was as fun in the reading as it was in the hearing. Awfulness that I am (my brother diagnosed that condition a half-century ago!😉), I haven’t been much of a Sinatra fan. Maybe towards the end, his legend seemed to drown out his singing. Or I didn’t listen to the right songs. This one’s a dandy, thank you very much!

I do agree with his take on the cover art, btw. Wonder if TWA paid for that logo placement…..

The director of the choral group I belong to arranged all the songs in last year's Spring Concert as a Tribute to Sinatra. "Come Fly With Me" was a joy to perform.

As for the album cover, I think Frank was more upset that it gives the impression that he just got off the plane and is hitchhiking back to Hoboken.

My parents loved the cello soloist named Charlotte that Lawerence Welk would periodically have on his show; especially the way he introduced her as, "Jarlet and her Jello."

So, when my 17yo daughter and I read the word of the week on Monday we began to speculate about your song choice. She immediately said “Come Fly With Me” and then we both added “Fly Me to the Moon”. But her preference was yours—she said it fit better with the word. We are in sync!!
