Do not forget that doubt is rife in the scriptures. The Book of Lamentations raises concerns and doubts about how a good God could countenance so many failures and disappointments. Then there is doubting Thomas. Peter seems to resist doubt until he renounces Christ three times and the weakness of his soul is cruelly manifest to be followed by restitution by our Lord.
As Tony said in the final paragraph, we should not go looking to doubt everything, but his point was that when doubts arise about what we know is right, we should not give doubts power by indulging them.
Debbie, I am glad that this particular post touched you. I suspect that some of our readers might be surprised when I say that I think today's discussion of a common word was one of the best that my husband has done for Word & Song, particularly the last paragraph. "Doubt" is often just a fleeting feeling that comes over someone, and no more, certainly not a spiritual crisis -- unless we indulge it, pick at it, and dwell on it. We suffer from various forms of OCD in our family, and we have had to learn the hard way the difference between random thoughts and true conviction. Thank YOU for joining us at Word & Song.
These brief explications are like a devotional and a charge fortifying my faith. Thank you!
