Our film is about a bad man, who seems stuck in a life of crime, but who shows real kindness to some very needy strangers and to a scruffy little dog named Pard.
I might be in the minority, but I enjoy the remake of High Sierra so much more. Also directed by Raoul Walsh, it was remade as a western called Colorado Territory starring Joel McCrea. There are several things in the story that I think CO Territory improved upon: how the main character gets out of jail, the “meet cute” (as we’d call it today), and the heist itself. I also thought the group of crooks and the women were more interesting characters. And of course, the amazing scenery of Colorado — even in black and white it was stunning. But, in High Sierra’s favor, it’s a pity there’s no dog in CO!
We haven't seen CT, but for this week we needed the dog. And in the original the dog wasn't an extra ot there for comic relief, but to establish the emotional character of the lead. But thanks for the tip! We love Joel McCrae in everything.
