I didn't know who Martha Davis and Spouse were until you posted their wonderful rendition of "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter." What a talented duo, especially Martha! (I'm guessing that's why her dear husband was known as "Spouse"!) What a tremendous talent she was. It was tragic that she, too, died young at only 42 years of age. Her husband, Calvin Ponder, died ten years later at age 53.
Videos like this are what Tony and I have taken to calling "Different Universe Alerts." Wasn't that performance delightful, through and through? And Fats Waller is a hoot. We watched a few Youtube videos of him last night and were thoroughly entertained!
I'm into my third year...but need neither a degree nor a job. I am doing this for the sheer love of reading, writing, and learning. The class doesn't even start until early January, so you can put this on the back burner for now. I look forward to an email at wsadams10@gmail.com
Well, those ae the best reasons to study anything! God bless you in your work, academic and otherwise. Yes, give us a little time, and if you don't hear from us do mention it again. Just in case!
Sorry to send a personal note here, but I have a request. I am using my GI Bill to major in English Lit at Centenary College in Shreveport, La. I have been asked to take an independent study next semester to help two professors put together an anthology of Religion in Literature Pre-1930. Any advice you might provide would be a blessing...but not if it is too much to ask.
Scott, I will run this by Tony. Religion in English Literature before 1930 is a HUGE project. Surely there's a plan to contain the anthology? We will try to reply via your email, but it may take a little while because we are up to our ears in "things to do" here at our cottage before we take of back to the states. How far along in your degree are you?
Thank you. Everything about this is delightful.
My favorite Fats Waller song has to be "Your feets too big". I haven't heard anyone else do that one.
I really liked the remastered version with Fats Waller, having only heard live versions. The interplay with the clarinet adds a lot.

I didn’t know much about Waller before reading this! Informative, interesting.
Love this song but had no idea of it origin. Thank you for making it even more meaningful.
