My mother sang this song to us children and I have loved it from that time. Thank you for this sweet song and nudging my remembrance of it. YT is not allowing the video but I will check other sites.
I am not sure why the YouTube video will not work for some of our readers, but it may have to do with my being in Canada. Please try this link instead. https://youtu.be/Ya_RciicqKo?si=ycjQkTJRUHzPqIxm
I am also getting “video unavailable”, but this is family favorite. We have a version by Alastair McDonald who gives a little story about some of the songs on the album. For Loch Lomond he says there is an old Celtic belief that the when a man dies on foreign soil his spirit returns via the low road. He then says in 1745 there were two Scottish soldiers were made captive at Carlisle, one of whom was to be set free, the other executed. It is the condemned man who will return to Scotland by way of the low road of death and reach Loch Lomond before his friend who must travel the earthly high road. (This may be the exact quote from the album, the kids were dictating to me!) The album is Scotland in Song.
I can’t find it, but I remember a fantastic medley with Loch Lomond, Molly Malone, and a couple others from the Proms in England, with the whole crowd loudly singing along. That England is no more. Thank you for another great one!
Sadly, You Tube won't let me listen to that version. So I'm listening to a newer version (good, but probably not nearly as good) by the Welsh Choir Only Boys Aloud. Love that song. Just love it.
