Our first time viewing. What a lovely film.

The insight that "tact" animates the work of Leo McCarey opened a line of curiosity in my mind -- are there other directors or authors, specific films or books that shine in their delight in and instruction of the virtues of communication? Not technical manuals on building confidence and resolving conflict or what-not, but things that show true wisdom and experience in the mind behind them, like this movie?

I had forgotten about this first movie. I think you are right it was the best.

It's always a close call for us, because we like both versions so much, Charlotte.

My first time to see this - yes, it was wonderful, and I was especially captivated by the beauty and wisdom of the grandmother. What a feminine power in her tranquil piety.

I’ll put “Love Affair” on the top of my watch list. I’ve seen an “Affair to Remember” more times than I can count, so hopefully it won’t color my reaction. Irene Dunne is one of my all time favorite actresses so that will probably work in “Love Affair”’s favor.

Connie, the very unique thing about this "make" and "remake" is that they are done by the same director .. and that he helped write the original screenplay. I can tell you that in our family, the nod most often goes to the original film .. but for us these are an utter "tie." We simply love them both. Irene Dunne is just superb in everything she did. In the later version, however, you get Cary Grant and Debra Kerr at the peak of their careers .. just impossible not to love either film. Let us know what you think.
