The episode is 'Lucy goes to Sun Valley' and the song starts at around the 30 minute mark.

Thanks for all you and Tony do for us.

Another interesting compare/contrast might be Marlene Dietrich doing "Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss" and ten years later or so "Falling in Love Again."

Thank you - I didn't realize the song was composed prior to WWI. And it is interesting to discover the different arrangements from your selections.

The song is also found in the 1939 James Cagney crime movie "The Roaring Twenties." Not only is it sung by Priscilla Lane, but bits of the melody are sprinkled into the score at certain points.

Steve, yes, listened to Priscilla Lane (among others) singing it. I couldn't likely make a comprehensive list of all the movie scores it figured in over the years. I haven't seen "The Roaring Twenties." Thanks for that tip!

This is put together with such love, such discernment, one can only be deeply touched and grateful.

Frances, that is lovely of you to say. It makes my late-night Fridays worthwhile to know that this music and the stories behind it have such a grateful audience.

Another great article, and song! Thank you for these! I look forward to them each Saturday. This week I was reflecting on my tendency to nostalgia for the old times, and old things, like records and turntables. And then it occurred to me that only in this modern age would we all be able to sit here together—in all our various locations, with our coffee—-and hear four different versions of a great song from times before we were born! Technology has some amazing gifts for us.

Louise, I agree about the technology in that same way. Anything overused can be a problem, but I've loved these songs all of my life -- thanks to the technology of the 20th century! -- and it's a blessing to me to be able to track them down now, through technology, and share them with a wider audience than would otherwise be possible. What a joy for me, and I am glad, also, for others.
