Great stuff. When someone once complained that the large defense budget included subsidizing things like marching bands, William F. Buckley quipped that he couldn't imagine a military without bagpipes.
We need more music of all kinds, and marches in particular, in parades. The last parade I went to was in our little hamlet, and the "music" was really so much noise. I would have loved to hear a marching band play Sousa. Instead, we had a drum "band," with ear-damaging decibels that made me literally have to leave my place on the sidewalk and run as far as possible. My ears! And for what? Just to be loud is not to make music. Alas!
Wasn't it written in 1888 not 1988?
I have just consulted with my proofreader. I think I will fire him! Haha!
Sigh. Blame my proofreader!
Goodness, beauty and truth prevail! Thanks for the spring in my step!
Anne, it was great to have an excuse to visit Mr. Sousa and learn more about him. I'm always glad to find good stories like his.
Loved this! All my favorites in the clip you provided!
I couldn't choose! So I chose an assortment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hahaaa! I miss Buckley. It's true that there's nothing quite like the sound of bagpipes advancing on you to inspire a bit of appropriate fear!!
There’s nothing like a rousing Sousa march to get the blood flowing!
So I think, too, Father! And I wanted more than one for today!
I was thinking the same! Just makes you feel good!

So true!
