As it happens he is one of only two actors I ever saw in person OFF stage. I was on a class trip to West Point, in the 7th grade. We attended a review of the cadets, assembled to greet an honored guest. It was Bob Hope. They addressed him with all honors, and now I know why. Old footage of him entertaining the troops is wonderful to watch, or listen to on radio broadcasts. And he ALWAYS ended his shows with this song.
I’m new here as of this week and I’m having a ball. Thank you so much for all that you both share. I grew up in this age of lots of tv, movie, and music trash. As the frog in the pot, I guess I assumed it had always been this way! I’m classically educated both academically and musically, but man - good movies especially are new for me!
My education is one of the most amazing gifts my parents gave me! Now I hope to give my own children the same gift. Additionally, I’m beginning my adult education. I’m finally embarking on the list of things I always said, “I need to read this again when I don’t have a deadline!”
I’m just beginning to plumb the depths of the archive. The holidays are such a fun time to have this for a project. Thanks again! Looking forward to sharing Advent with you all.
Hello, Madeleine! You are very fortunate to have the benefit of a classical education, indeed. You are in for a fun ride here at Word & Song, I hope. We're serious about our mission of salvaging all of the good, beautiful, and true that we can to share with others, but it turns out that these things are really fun, grand, inspiring, often astounding. Be sure to take advantage of our archive, by the way. We've been at the project six days a week for two and a half years now, and there's a LOT to browse from our past publications. Welcome aboard!
I miss the Bob Hope holiday and military specials. I believe he always ended with this song. I fear his kind will not be seen again.
