Our hymn is a fine example of popular song and poetry. The verses are simple with bright images, a bounce in the meter, a merry refrain, and no pretension at all.

In a comment on a previous song, I put a link to the songs of a Passionist Christmas CD..........The version of The Holly and The Ivy on it is my favorite......the soloist has an atypical voice (he is also a tuner & repairer of pipe organs)...
