Jim MacKenzie knows what orphanhood is, beyond just his duty to others. He lost only son in the Boer War, and his orphaned grandsons have come to live with him.
They were great, weren't they? And the little guy, crying, "Grandad, don't eat the babby!" And of course he wanted to call the babby "Rover." The woman who coached them did a magnificent job.
We’re watching this now. It’s very engaging. I knew I would like this movie as soon as I heard the opening music. It’s a lullaby , most likely a Scottish one to go along with the story ,and the words are, “oh can ye sew cushions, oh can ye sew sheets, oh can ye sing ballaloo when the bairn greets.”
Great review and (yay, yay, yay!!) when I used the "share" button to post on Facebook it actually brought up the post in preview instead of a subscribe link. Fabulous!!!! If that continues to be the case I shall be sharing far more frequently in future..
Ding! Ding! Ding! I just thought of one work-around which I haven't tried, because I can't easily customize the available Substack "share" button. I can customize a button, but I have to redo that customization for every post. Sigh.
Oh, good grief, Mariellen. I've shared on FB and never understood that this was happening because it never happens to us when we share on FB. If it's been happening when subscribers try to share, that IS HORRIBLE. We want people to read what we write, and a plain old "subscribe" button won't do that. Thanks for trying again!
I spend the vast majority of my time for this project by trying to create work-arounds that let us control what, when, and how our posts go out. There are a lot of "built-in" features on Substack that I have to undo for every single post that goes out. And when I say "a lot," I mean "a LOT."
The instrumental opening was “O Can Ye Sew Cushions” I song I remember from long ago.

A very enjoyable film! Thank you!
Not available at my library.......and I don't stream..............So I just ordered it on Ebay...
Watched last night. Quite an endearing little film. The child actors were charming, especially the little one called Davey.

Can’t wait to watch! And I must ask because my children will want to know before sitting down to watch it: Why is it called “The Kidnappers?”
Oh no! That would spoil the whole movie!
The 1990 remake starring Charlton Heston is really very good, too. And it was produced by Canadian Broadcasting Corp for the Disney Channel. Imagine.

Until today it has happened to me every single time I wanted to share. I was getting to where I just didn't bother. Glad I did today!

That's a bummer. But your content is so good, I hope you will keep on trying!
