Today's poem is a six-line aphorism with no title, from in a collection of what we might call proverbs. Such sayings express the distilled general wisdom of mankind.
There's a fragment of verse I remember from decades ago that I think might have been translated from German. It concerns "weal and woe" and goes like this..."in weal, though glad, yet grave/in woe, though sad, yet brave." Always liked that but don't know where it's from.
Enjoyed this - thanks.
