Oh how I love to reminisce about songs that still mean so much to me.

Turns out that I have the Goodman version in my PlayList. Just today I played it while driving.

I so look forward to reading these accounts of the Way We Were.

Jack, that comment made my day! My mother was a huge fan of the crooners, and of big bands. So when I was a kid in the 60's, I grew up with this music in the house -- all the time. I used to say that I was a "closet Sinatra fan," because the music of my youth was not that music. But it was still "in the air." So I'm having a lot of fun letting our work of the week -- or general theme of a given week -- call out of memory's store one of these great old songs. The songs, I know. But the back stories I'm learning as I go, and what a delight those are! It is like visiting an alternate universe, walking down Memory Lane with this great old music.

Thank you for this - great song! I’ll be seeing you is no slouch, either, and I’ve always enjoyed the Calamity Jane movie, too (Prof Esolen might get that one mixed up with Annie Get Your Gun ; ) )

My true reason for commenting is to thank y’all so very much for the gracious recommendation, it was very much appreciated. Thank you most of all for all your time and effort on this wonderful magazine, reading it has been a treasured highlight of my year. Happy new year!

Sammy Fain wrote some great songs. I've put "I'll Be Seeing You" up near the top of them, one of my favorites. I have to confess to not being a big fan of Doris Day, although when I listen to her early recordings, I like them a lot. After awhile, I found her voice to go too "mannered," and a bit tiresome (kind of like Johnny Mathis -- a little of that singing style goes a long way). But boy do I have great stuff to draw from for this weekly venture! Endless treasures. Adrian, if you notice, we are very cautious about our recommendations. But I do enjoy your page, a lot. Tony's sister is a long-time infectious disease doctor, now CMO of her hospital in PA, and she and we have often debated which profession is more corrupt, more dangerous. Ha! We have never resolved this question: Big Medicine vs. "Higher" Education. I like that you take on the issues, but keep the good cheer going. It's a bit of a tight-rope walk in our world. Ultimately, we know that the light will overcome the gloom .. or at least not be utterly extinguished. You are doing a great job at staying balanced, yourself, and I don't doubt are helping a lot of people do the same.
