“You’ll Never Walk Alone" is a song of hope, written when the world was literally at war, when so many were suffering so greatly, and when optimism was not enough to win the day. Hope was needed then, and this timeless song still inspires it today.
Give us as much background on these great men and as many of your top ten as you deem fit.
I'd gently suggest that the only thrill greater than listening to Bocelli sing the song is hearing Bocelli and Pavarotti sing it as a duet.
You speak of the loss that Andre overcame. The very essence of poignant is hearing him sing this song after he is led to the microphone at center stage, being incapable of walking to it alone.
Loved the commentary on R and H, and "You'll Never Walk Alone." R and H were unusual for their era because they subtly attacked the prejudices that prevailed everywhere: Racism, Misogyny, Domestic Abuse, Anti-Asian bigotry, as much as they could comprise within beautiful music and fine lyrics. I think of songs like "You've got to be taught to hate." or 'Poor Judd is dead" and so on. R and H spoke truth to their time and were well ahead of the popular culture which is still trying to catch up with them more than half a century later and understand their message. Thanks for this fine article. Best to you and yours!
I look forward to Sometimes a Song and you never disappoint! This has been one of my favorite songs for as long as I can remember. Thank you so much!
Debra:
This is amazing.
I have that video bookmarked. Just your mentioning it nearly brings me to tears.
You use the word sublime.
Yes.
Debra,
